The Eyes of the Dragon

Last year I went to a summer camp. That summer camp gives out books to all campers on the last full day of camp, based on the campers' interest. The book I got was The Eyes of the Dragon, by Stephen King. Stephen King is known for his horror novels, and this is one of them. This novel is full of suspense, betrayal, success, failure, and magic.

The book takes place in the medieval period, with knights, castles, and a dragon. There is a castle, ruled by King Roland, located in Delain. He has two sons, Peter, the older, and Thomas, the younger. He as well has a personal magician, Flagg, the main antagonist of the novel. Flagg's main goal is to either rule Delain, or destroy it, I'm not sure. The book starts with King Roland and his companions killing the dragon. Roland then proceeds to devour the dragon's heart, and this is one of the more pleasant parts of this novel. We however get some background, a flashback if I may. Years ago, Roland was married to Sasha, who brought Peter to life. The people of Delain loved Sasha, as Sasha many times convinced Roland to make certain rules which benefited the people. These rules however didn't please Flagg. Shortly after, while Sasha was giving birth to Thomas, she unexpectedly died. Years later, Flagg then proceeded to do a series of actions, the actions which changed the lives of everyone in the kingdom, forever.

I left many parts of this story out, as saying them would make reading less enjoyable. If you want the challenge of reading such a gory novel, experience the kingdom like you're really in it, and find out the purpose of the eyes of the dragon, this book is for you. I enjoyed reading this book, and this is what I was reading last school year at Language and Literature, during free reading. I have never actually finished reading this novel, but writing this review about it, makes me think that I will start reading it again.
