Hi everyone! I recently read The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and it was so good! I know many people have already read this series (I have only seen the movies) but I keep hearing from my friends how good it is and so, I read it!
The Hunger Games follows a teenage girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in North America, but is now called Panem. The Capital, which is their sort of government, has an annual Hunger Games where 24 tributes, 2 from each of the districts that Panem was split up into, fight to the death. The winner, or the victor, gets fame and fortune. Katniss Everdeen, who volunteered for her younger sister, was put into the games with her partner being Peet Mellark. Katniss is from district 12, the poorest district and where there hasn’t been a victor for a couple decades. Katniss already has experience with hunting going into the games because that is how she provides food for her family. She has taken the role of a caretaker for her mother and younger sister since her father died. The longest part of the book is what happens in the Hunger Games: the tributes preparing for the games, the tributes in the arena, the deaths, the alliances and betrayals. I won’t say who won just in case there are some people who still haven’t read it but I am guessing the majority of you can figure it out.
Like I said before, I have seen all the movies from the series, but the book is way better! I was so intrigued each time I read and overall loved the book. If you are interested in dystopian novels that include fighting, action, and suspense, then this book would be a great option!
This book does a really good job of showcasing the different emotions that Katniss feels and the thoughts/plans/ideas that she creates. Since the majority of the book is the actual games, there isn’t much dialogue because Katniss does not want to be found by the others so most of the time the reader is just seeing what happens in Katniss’ mind. Normally, I find books without much dialogue/interaction with other characters to be boring but Suzanne Collins did a great job of keeping the book entertaining while it was just Katniss.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to all of you. I am planning on reading the whole series, so I hope the next ones are as good as this one!

Hi Sofia! Great blogpost, you described what the story is about very well. I had started the Hunger Games but had never finished it. I'll definitely have to start reading again. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I totally agree that the book is much better than the movie. I read it back in middle school and I remember being very intrigued by the creative plot and, like you mentioned in your post, Katniss's inner monologue was interesting and easy to follow. Im curious to see what you think of the next books in the series.
ReplyDeleteHi Sofia! I like how you described the plot of the book and I'm looking forward to reading and watching it soon!
ReplyDeleteHello, Sofia! I love the Hunger Games too! Even though I like the movies just as much as the books, I agree with you that the book does a good job portraying Katniss's emotions and feelings. Nice post! :)
