First Romance Novel Review!
Hello everyone!
First off, I’d like to say that I apologize that this review is coming out late. I’m currently reading a book that is 1000+ pages long and I thought I’d finish it before the blog cycle. I didn't, so I'm going to be reviewing Tiger’s Curse today.
The main character of this story is a girl named Kelsey who works at a circus in Oregon. One day, there’s this white tiger that she interacts with greatly. She rubs him, and he lets her and she tells him some stories. Sometime later, she finds out that the tiger isn’t a tiger. It’s actually a 300-year-old Prince named Ren.
So when this happened, I was quite intrigued. As a lover of fantasy novels, I thought the plot was going to get a lot more interesting from here. It didn’t disappoint. On the action aspect. The romance part is a completely different story but I’ll get into that later.
So after Kelsey figured out Ren was actually a person, he told her his story and then they ended up flying to India together to break the curse. In their attempts to break the curse, they fought monsters, overcame puzzles and journeyed through sacred temples. THESE were the parts that were interesting to read. On the other hand…
MINI-SPOILER(ISH)
The romance part was incredibly astonishingly annoying. So Ren clearly likes Kelsey and Kelsey likes Ren. Every time she’s alone with Mr. Kadam (a loyal friend and advisor to Ren and Kelsey) she yaps about how much she likes him but she doesn’t “deserve” him. When Mr. Kadam asks why she hits one of those stuttering sprees and then says that she’s too normal. Then, after Ren informs Kelsey that he’ll need more help from her because the curse is really hard to break, she turns up and straight leaves. She told him directly to his face that she can’t do this. In a very delusional moment of hope, I thought she would have a valid reason. Maybe the fact that he’s 300 years old! Or perhaps the fact that he’s not completely a tiger or a man! No! Instead it’s because she’s scared. She wimped out and dipped because she was scared of the challenges.
MINI-SPOILER (ISH) DONE
In defense of this book, it is an adult romance novel. Since I’m a 14-year-old boy, one may come to the conclusion that I don’t understand love yet which is why the book was so boring to me. This theory is completely reasonable and if you understand whatever Kelsey is doing while being the same age as me, I’m happy for you.
So in conclusion, this book isn’t very good in my opinion. While the action parts are interesting, there are so few of them and they are so spaced out with the same stuff each time. The romance part had so much potential but it just didn’t work out because I feel the author might’ve been trying to make the book longer, I guess. I’d rate this book a 6/10. Only read it if you’re into really slow adult romance novels. Or if you’re just good with romance.
I hope you enjoyed my review! Until next time…
Peace!
Marshall

Hey Marshall, I haven't read this book before, but the way you described it seemed sort of interesting, or at least like it could have had potential. However, I get the idea of getting bored, because I'm sure Kelsey constantly gushing over Ren would get old very quickly. I like how you both described the parts you enjoyed and the reason why you didn't like the book, so we can see the positive and negative parts. Nice blog post! Out of curiosity, what is the 1000+ page book you are currently reading?
