Hey everyone! I just finished reading The Honor of Your Presence by Dave Eggers which is a very short novel about Helen and her uncle! This book was only 90 pages so it is a very quick read.
This book follows Helen and her Uncle Peter. Helen helps make invitations to special events and her Uncle Peter saw her position as a chance to go to these events! He convinced Helen to get 2 extra invitations for different events so that they could go. First, they went to a costume event at an aquarium and later on they went to more fancier events where they had to wear nice clothes and pretend to be upper class. Because Helen is more introverted and worried her boss would find her there, she was on edge the entire time they were at these events but she eventually learned to have more fun and meet new people!
*SPOILER* At the last event, Helen, who hadn’t met any of her coworkers, saw most of the people she worked with and everyone was kind and not mad!
Because this book is pretty short, there isn’t much to write about.
Overall, this book was pretty bad…I just did not like the plot and the way the story was written. I think the story would be better if there was more detail or more events happening. The author probably wanted this to be a short, quick read but I think it would be much better with more details, characters, background, and events!
I would rate this book a 4/10 but if you enjoy short novels then I think you will like this one!
